Raipur : Guerrillas of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) have set ablaze a high school in Chhattisgarh, police said Tuesday.
They first ransacked the building Monday night in village Sangam in Kanker district and then set the school on fire, reducing a major part of it to ashes, police sources told IANS.
The sources said the rebels had stepped up attacks on government buildings and health and education infrastructure in the interiors of Kanker, a part of the sprawling Bastar region.
The Monday incident is the third attack on a school building in a week, the sources said.
Chhattisgarh is one of the worst hit by Maoist violence. The guerrillas killed at least 55 policemen in a single attack in March in Bijapur district.
