India honours Nepalese Army chief

New Delhi(IANS) : Nepalese Army chief Gen. Rookmangual Katawal was Wednesday conferred the honorary rank of an Indian Army general at an investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan here.

President Pratibha Patil conferred the rank on Katawal at the ceremony attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and top military and civilian officials.

Katawal is on a two-day visit to India especially for the ceremony. He has also held meetings with Indian Army chief Gen. Deepak Kapoor, Indian Navy chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta and Indian Air Force chief Fali Homi Major.

India has been a major supplier of non-lethal military hardware like helicopters and trucks to Nepal.
