UAE to hold meet on promoting sustainable construction

Dubai(IANS) : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is to host Dubai International Conference on Sustainable Construction next year, news agency WAM reported Wednesday.

The conference is organised every two years in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). The Zayed International Prize for the Environment organises an international conference every two years.

An international exhibition on sustainable construction and “Green Buildings” technology will be held on the sidelines of the conference.

The conference will discuss environmental themes, including ensuring compliance with “green building” standards in the emirate of Dubai with effect from early 2008.

Speaking on the occasion of the announcement of the conference at Dubai Press Club Tuesday, Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi, UAE minister of environment and water, said that the UAE would encourage government institutions to adopt practical solutions to achieve sustainable development”.

The Zayed Prize plans to highlight sustainable construction technology and facilitate implementation of the concept of “Green Buildings” at the local and global levels.
