CRPF leading medal tally in All India Police Water Sports contest

Bhopal: The Central Reserve Police Force, (CRPF), with nine gold medals to their credit were on top of the medals tally on the penultimate day of the ongoing 7th All India Police Water Sports Championship being held here at Boat Club in the majestic Upper Lake.

The CRPF had bagged four gold and one bronze medals in Kayaking and Canoeing events yesterday.

Border Security Force, (BSF), with six and Punjab Police with four gold medals are placed second and third respectively in the medals tally.

Hosts Madhya Pradesh Police bagged the first gold medal in the championship on Thursday in coxless pair of rowing event. It also won a bronze medal in canoeing. Andhra Pradesh team managed to get two silver and bronze medals in the competition.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be the chief guest at the prize distribution function on Friday evening.

In Kayaking singles competition CRPF’s Ashok Malik won gold, Uttar Pradesh’s Ram Karan Yadav bagged silver and Andhra Pradesh’s M Rajesh managed bronze medal in the single contest. Whereas, in the Kayaking doubles, CRPF’s duo of Ashok Malik & Dharmendra Malik pocketed gold, BSF’s Surendra Beniwal & Vinod Singh walked away with silver and Jammu & Kashmir’s Parvez & Zahoor Ahmad won bronze medal.

In another Kayaking event, BSF, Andhra Pradesh and CRPF were placed first, second and third respectively. The foursome of
Surendra Beniwal, Deepak Yadav, Vinod Singh and Mahesh Yadav of BSF; K Anjanayulu, T Nagbabu, P Krishna Rao, M Rajesh of Andhra Pradesh and Rajendra Verma, Shriom, Manoj Kumar, Jagvir Singh of CRPF bagged gold, silver and bronze medal respectively in Group Kayaking.

In Canoeing single contest match, CRPF’s Manoj Rawal bagged gold, AP’s KG Suresh silver and BSF’s Somnath won bronze medal.

Meanwhile, CRPF’s Manoj Rawal & Karan Singh got gold, BSF’s B Shoyam & Arun kumar bagged silver and AP’s Arif Khan & G Suresh retained bronze in the Canoeing doubles competition. In Canoeing event the teams of BSF, Manipur and Andhra Pradesh were ranked first, second and third were respectively.

The foursome of Debopam, Arun Kumar, Sanjay Sharma, Suresh P of BSF; Deepak, Sadanand, Sonamani, Balesar of Manipur and Arif Khan, VNS Rao, M Shrinu, G Suresh of Andhra Pradesh bagged gold, silver and bronze medal respectively in Canoeing group competition.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police AR Pawar had declared the championship open on Monday. This is the first time when 18 teams and 286 players are participating in the championship. In this competition, the biggest contingent belongs to Uttar Pradesh and SSB whereas the Assam Rifles’ team is the smallest comprising of only one member.

The teams also conducted a March Past on pedal boats. The captain of Madhya Pradesh team Sunil Kevat administered the oath of fair play and sportsmanship to the participating teams. ([email protected])
