In a statement Tuesday the club said that Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld had decided to suspend Kahn and scrap him from the squad for Bayern’s next league game on the weekend against Hertha Berlin.

The former Germany goalkeeper had earlier criticized his team-mates in a newspaper article. The statement said the reasons for the suspension would be dealt with internally.

“I’m not that surprised, I understand it,” said Kahn of his punishment. “Discipline is the bottom line.”
