Washington : Two students of Indian origin were found shot dead inside an apartment at Louisiana State University (LSU), university authorities said Friday.
The victims, Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam, were both male PhD students at LSU and hailed from Kurnool and Karim Nagar in Andhra Pradesh respectively. Both were international students.
The LSU Police Department is investigating the double homicide that took place at the campus late in the evening Thursday. The students were found inside an apartment at the Edward Gay Apartments complex. The apartment building is designated for married and graduate students and it is on the north edge of the campus.
University authorities are urging the LSU community to use caution when moving about the campus.
University police are currently working the case, with assistance from the Baton Rouge Police Department, but no suspects have been identified, according to a message posted on the university website.
The initial call to LSUPD came in at 10.37 p.m. Thursday as a medical emergency. The emergency call to the police was made by Kiran’s pregnant wife, who returned home and found the two dead.
Officers and medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene, assessed the situation and notified their supervisors at LSUPD, it said.
CBS News quoted Charles Zewe, a spokesman for the LSU System, as saying that the two had been shot once in the head. Zewe said Chandrasekhar was “bound with a computer cable and shot, while Kiran was found near the door”.
This is the first killing on the campus since the early 1990s.
