Ranchi : The opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA)- sponsored no-confidence motion against Jharkhand’s Madhu Koda government was defeated Tuesday night.
The no-confidence motion was defeated with 33 votes counted in favour of the motion and 41 against it in the 82-member assembly.
The NDA had brought the motion to expose what its members termed the prevailing corruption in the government and the misdeeds of the ministers.
In the NDA, the Bharatiya Janata Party has 24 legislators, five are of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and five are suspended BJP legislators.
Koda, an independent, is supported by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). In UPA, the Congress has nine legislators, seven belong to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), 17 belong to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the rest are from either smaller parties or are independents.
The Koda government was formed by toppling the Arjun Munda government in September 2006.
