Abhishek wins stroke-play at Goodricke Eastern India Open

Kolkata : Abhishek Jha emerged tops in the stroke-play format at the Goodricke Eastern India Open on the LG Amateur Tour with a card of one-under par 71 to finish with a two-day total of one-over 145 here Thursday.

Simarjeet Singh was a shot behind at 146 followed by Saurav Bahuguna at 147. Three players Tarun Gogale, Sanjeev Mehra and H.S. Kang were tied for the fourth spot at 148. The match-play format begins Friday at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club.

Abhishek did not have the best of starts making a bogey on the opening hole. He quickly nullified it with a birdie on the fourth hole. But two consecutive bogeys on the eight and ninth, the lanky golfer was two-over after the front nine. However, he was on an attacking mode on the back nine, as he made birdie-bogey sequence on the first four holes while making an eagle on the 15th and a birdie on the 16th to salvage his round.
