Kuala Lumpur : Chennai-based entertainment company Pyramid Saimira Group will invest 84 million ringgit (about $25 million) in 2008 to upgrade its movie halls in Malaysia to theatres with digital screens.
The group’s managing director P.S. Saminathan said the expansion plan included adding hotels to its entertainment complexes, Tamil Nesan newspaper reported.
He said the company with commercial interests in Singapore and the US has earmarked entertainment-savvy Malaysia as an important base for its fast-expanding business.
“Malaysia has a large pool of educated workers and is successfully transforming into a service economy. It has huge potential for us,” he told Bernama news agency.
Besides running 51 movie halls, the company has the second largest theatre chain in Malaysia and is involved in producing Malay, Chinese and Tamil films.
