Islamabad : Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf and Caretaker Prime Minister Muhammad Mian Soomro on Thursday condemned two attacks which happened earlier that day near the capital Islamabad.
The state-run PTV said the two leaders asked the Pakistani people to remain calm.
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto died Thursday evening after being seriously injured in an explosion at the Liaquat Bagh park in Rawalpindi, some 30 km south from Islamabad.
Bhutto, 54, died in hospital after a suspected suicide blast rocked her election rally, killing at least ten people, the PTV said.
However, a private TV, ARJ, reported that at least 20 were killed and another 42 were injured in the blast.
Separately, at least four supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was due to address election rallies later, were killed earlier Thursday when unidentified gunmen fired at his party’s procession in Rawalpindi.
