Islamabad : Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai on Thursday visited the Pakistan Monument to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
On his arrival at the Monument, President Karzai was given guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan army.
He laid floral wreath at the monument and stood silent for sometime in memory of those who laid their lives for the integrity and solidarity of the country.
President Karzai was briefed on the concept behind the unique architectural edifice, whose petal-like four columns depict a harmonious existance among the four provinces.
The ceremony was also attended by ministers, military officials and diplomats.
Later, President Karzai planted a sapling ‘Magnolia Grandiflora’ in a lawn of Shakarparian as part of a practice done by foreign dignitaries.
Chairman Capital Development Authority Kamran Lashari briefed the Afghan President about the beautiful scene of Margallas and overview of Islamabad from the Shakarparian hills.
