Washington : Turkish President Abdullah Gul will travel to Washington early next year to meet with President George W. Bush, the White House said on Friday.
“The President looks forward to establishing a good relationship with President Gul and discussing issues of mutual concern, including our efforts to counter the PKK; promote peace and stability in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, and the broader Middle East; and advance Turkeys European Union accession goals, which the United States supports”, said the White House statement.
The visit, scheduled on January 8 of next year, will the first visit of Gul to Washington after assuming his presidency and amidst tension over Iraqi-Turkish borders.
