“Though jehad is good, but we are not here to fight, said Zabia, a seven-grade student at Jamia Hafsa who left the madrassah along hundreds of other students after the government announced unconditional pardon for those who surrender.

The burqa-clad Zabia said her studies received a setback due to Jamia Hafsa’s militant activities, adding that she does not intend to return even after normalcy.

More than five hundred students, both girls and boys, who left the madrassah with their consent had been shifted to a ground near capital’s Covered Market.

Only female students were allowed to leave with their guardians after getting registered by the authorities.

However the male students were taken by buses to unknown place where they are supposed to be detained for some time for questioning, a top level government official told APP on the condition of anonymity.

Tooba Khan, a third-year student belonging to Abbottabad criticized the madrassah administration for using the seminary for militant activities.

With tearful eyes, Tooba said she did not want to be part of Jamia Hafsa’s combative activities which led to Tuesday’s shootout claiming several innocent lives.

She expressed concern for hundreds of girls still present in the madrassah, with as young as five to seven year old, who risked their lives by vowing to fight till their last breath.

The mother of a student, who came from Rawalpindi to take her daughter Maryam back home criticized Lal Masjid clerics for endangering the lives of students.

“We can’t leave our daughters fall prey to the inflexible attitude of the two maulanas, she furiously said.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Chaudhry Muhammad Ali told APP that above six hundred students from Jamia Hafsa and Jamia Faridia had surrendered so far, while the process continues.

President Pervez Musharraf has announced 5000 rupees as allowance for each person leaving voluntarily.
