Homaid, who is one of the aged Sunni ulema in Saudi Arabia, was speaking in a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Riyadh Mohammad Hosseini.

He said holding religious meetings among ulema would decrease differences among Islamic sects and bring hearts of Muslims throughout the world closer to one another.

He termed as "sensitive" ongoing situation with respect to conspiracies hatched by enemies of Islam and stressed the need to einforce unity and convergence among Muslims as the sole way to confront plots of enemies of Islam and the Islamic world.

Hosseini, for his part, said enemies of Islam hatch different conspiracies to create mistrust among regional states and cause a big religious sedition.

"Cultural figures and great Islamic ulema play a very vital and determining role under such a sensitive situation," he stated.

He pointed to important developments in the region and the Islamic world and said, "In fact, regional countries are currently undergoing a historical test."
