Two US soldiers killed in Mosul, Baghdad incidents

Baghdad : Two US soldiers were killed, one in a helicopter crash in Nineveh and another during combat operations in Baghdad, according to the Multi-National Force (MNF) on Thursday.

According to an MNF statement, a Task Force Lightning soldier was killed when a helicopter went down in Nineveh Province Wednesday.

It added that another soldier was injured during the incident and was transported to a coalition medical facility for treatment. The incident is under investigation, it said.

Another statement said an MNF soldier was killed during combat operations in the southern section of the Iraqi capital, also Wednesday. "Soldiers in this unit continue to conduct combined clearing operations in this area of Baghdad in an effort to reduce sectarian violence and continually promote Iraqi lead security operations to gain confidence and support from the Iraqi people," it said.

The names of both soldiers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

With this, the number of US soldiers killed in July has reached 10, bringing the total number of those killed since the war in Iraq began in March 2003 to 3,588.

November 2004 remains the bloodiest for the US Army, which lost 137 members during that month. Last month witnessed the lost of 101 American soldiers.
