Peoples Party of Arakans, an insurgent group fighting the Myanmar government, had kidnapped Hussain Shahid Suman, a Bangladeshi working for the Danish International Assistance Agency (Danida), along with his driver on June 25 from a forest in Bandarban district of Chittagong Hill tracts on the country's south-eastern border.

Myanmarese militants have been operating from Bangladeshi soil, using the hilly terrain and the forests to hide.

About 400 personnel of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and other security agencies combed the forests to rescue Suman. The cause behind the kidnapping was not known.

Suman, a diabetic without medication for two weeks, was taken to hospital immediately after being rescued. He was reported to be ill and his feet were swollen.

"I am very happy that Suman is safely rescued. I am going to meet him tomorrow as I got the permission," said Suman's wife Kamrun Nahar.
