Upcoming golfer S.Madaiah killed in road mishap

New Delhi : S.Madaiah, one of the most promising golfers from Bangalore, was killed in a road accident last weekend, the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) said here Monday.

"According to reports reaching here, Madaiah was involved in a head-on collision with a truck, an accident that took the lives of both him and his travelling companion," said PGTI in a statement.

Madaiah finished runner-up at the SRF All-India Professional Matchplay Golf Championship last season.

He finished 21st in the 2006-07 PGTI Order of Merit and had three top-10 finishes last season. A promising youngster, he was looking forward to qualifying for the Asian Tour.

"Madaiah was a talented golfer and had achieved a lot in his short career. But more important, he was respected by his counterparts on the tour and got along with everyone. He will definitely be missed," said PGTI board member Digvijay Singh in a tribute to Madaiah.

PGTI commissioner Ajai Gupta said: "It is a sad moment for the entire golfing community. Madaiah was one of the best golfers to emerge out of the south in recent years and he had a great future ahead of him."
