Hyderabad : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will visit Hyderabad July 31 to review the progress made by Andhra Pradesh in key sectors, especially agriculture.
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will make a comprehensive presentation on what the state is doing to raise the growth rate of agriculture including animal husbandry, fisheries, poultry and horticulture.
A statement from the chief minister's office here said that Manmohan Singh had called for a holistic approach to raise the agricultural growth to at least above four percent.
The prime minister will discuss all the development issues in detail, particularly the agricultural growth, which remained static for the last few years, said the statement.
Reddy has asked the state agriculture department to prepare an action plan with specific issues and requirements to be presented before the prime minister, who recently expressed concern over food security.
The chief minister said though the growth of animal husbandry, fisheries and poultry is encouraging in the state, much more needs to be done.
He has called a meeting of the secretaries and officials July 17 on agriculture to finalise issues to be brought before the prime minister.
Reddy asked all the departments to prepare presentations with clarity in approach and seek special funds for specific issues.
The statement said the state government has already formulated broad strategies for boosting agricultural production and productivity through intensification, diversification, non-farm linkages and shifting of small and marginal farmers.
