Islamabad : Pakistani senator and former federal minister Nilofer Bakhtiar said Thursday she was grieved over the tragedy at Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa madrasa and had forgiven the two brothers who were chief clerics at the mosque for issuing a decree against her, Online news agency reported.
Talking to a private TV channel, Bakhtiar said if the Jamia Hafsa issue had been resolved earlier, the tragedy could have been averted. She said that law enforcement agencies were responsible for the presence of a large number of weapons inside a mosque.
Bakhtiar said "we should remain moderate, as extremism is detrimental to the interest of the nation".
She vowed to build a crisis centre for the women and children affected by the operation of the security forces.
