Shimla : Amity, which runs educational institutions in different parts of the country, is going to set up a university in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh.
Construction work for the university is expected to start soon, after the state cabinet gave its nod to the use of around 23 acres of land late Wednesday near Dharamsala, some 280 km from here.
The land has been provided for a period of 30 years, a spokesman of the state government said here Thursday.
The proposed land will include farm and forestland and a survey of this patch has already been carried out, officials said.
The university in Himachal Pradesh will be Amity's 23rd campus in the country. It claims to have 45,000 students in all campuses offering 130 courses.
There has been a lot of interest among private universities to set up campuses in the hilly state after the private university act was passed last year.
Amity is the third private player to enter the state after J.P. and ICFAI. The J.P IT university is already functional at Kaithlighat in Solan district.
