New Delhi: Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar said here Tuesday that a new sports policy is in its final stage of preparation and the draft will be hosted on the ministry’s website in a week for public comments.
“The sports policy is almost ready and should be made public within a week on the official website of the sports ministry,” said Aiyar told media persons.
“If we fail to do it next week, it may take another week but not more than that.”
Aiyar said the 50-page draft mainly covers three areas.
“It has three broad outlines. One is ‘Sports for all’ – which is a national objective under the 20-point programme adopted last year. The second is ‘Excellence in Sports’ and the third is ‘Constitutional, legal and institutional measures’,” the minister said.
Asked whether the ministry should have included the sports federations in the process, Aiyar said: “How can anyone be in the loop other than me and my officials? It’s just the draft. It will be there on the site for everyone to make suggestions.”
