WASHINGTON, Jul 27 (NNN-Prensa Latina): The approval of the US military budget is in limbo, despite demands from President George W. Bush, who is trying to get support from Congress for his controversial strategy in Iraq.
Bush expected Congress to have approved the USD623-billion war budget for the 2008 fiscal year, including an allocation for the US troops in Iraq, on Wednesday night.
The budget would consist of USD481.4 billion (11 percent more than last year’s budget) and USD141.7 billion for the so-called war against terrorism, which mainly goes to Iraq.
According to estimates from the Center for Defense Information (CDI), an independent think tank based in Washington, it is the largest military budget requested by a US president since the end of World War II.
So far, the largest war budget was approved in 1953, during the Korean War, when the amount allocated to military expenditures totalled USD442 billion.
