Hyderabad : "Urdu is the language of India and not that of the followers of a particular religion. This is the sweetest and most beautiful language of the world. Efforts to develop the Urdu language will be made under the Prime Minister's 15-point Programme for Minorities," said Union Minister for Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy while addressing the International Urdu Conference held by All India Urdu Development Committee at Telugu University here Monday.
He further said that Muslims in the country are very backward and he is in favour of providing reservations for them. "But is not proper to equate reservation for Muslims and Urdu as they are two different issues," he said.
Mr Reddy assured the audience that he would personally try to get the recommendations of the All India Urdu Conference implemented.
He added that Urdu has been successfully maintaining its position in the country for the last 700 years.
