United Nations : UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the brutal killing of two workers of the Sri Lankan Red Cross after their abduction from Colombo and offered his condolences to their families.
In a statement issued Monday, Ban demanded a thorough investigation by the police into the killing.
The secretary-general "reminds the government of their obligation to investigate the murders of 17 aid workers from Action Contre la Faim, who were killed 10 months ago", the statement said.
"The secretary-general is deeply concerned about the security of civilians and aid workers in Sri Lanka and reminds all parties in the country that aid workers have a right to protection at all times," it added.
The Sri Lankan government also condemned the killing of the two volunteer workers who went missing Friday and were found dead Sunday. Both men were Tamils and belonged to the eastern town of Batticaloa.
