Lawyers arrested in Anantnag in priest suicide cases, released on Bail

Anantnag: Two advocates arrested by the police after the suicide of a Mahant of a local tample were bailed out by the court, here today.

Sources revealed that Advocate PN Goja and Advocate Charnjeet Dhar alongwith three other members of Nagpal Prabandhak Committee members were taken into custody after Mahant Sukh Ram of Sherbagh Temple committed suicide by setting himself on fire.

The advocates and other members were charged for instigating the priest to commit suicide. They members of Nagpal Prabandhak Committee, a religious organisation of Kashmiri Pandits had taken strong objection of cutting down of century old tree by the priest from the temple complex.

Reliably sources told News Agency of Kashmir that number of advocates from Anantnag Bar Association came forward in support of their colleagues and resented their arrest. A bail application was moved before the sessions court Anantnag, which came up for hearing today.

Sources revealed that sessions judge Javaid Ahmed after hearing the counsels for the accused and prosecution side admitted them to bail.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lawyer’s Forum has demanded a CBI probe into the matter.

The VDPC has also appreciated the role of Bar Association of Anantnag and has thanked them for extending help to the arrested persons and for arranging their bail.

In a press release RK Bhat of Verinag Kashmir has appealed to the all community members to come forward this time. “We also thank Jammu Bar Association Jammu and all other organisation who expressed their resentment over the arrests”, the statement added further.
