From a maximum of 42.5 degree Celsius Thursday, the temperature rose to 42.8 degrees Friday afternoon, which is two degree above normal. The minimum temperature was 33.5 degree Celsius – six degrees above normal.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature might hit the 44-degree mark Friday, later in the day.

"The cloud picture that we received Friday shows that there is no chance for rain. The temperature will continue to rise and the heat wave will continue," said an IMD official, spelling more trouble for Delhites.

"It's getting worse every day. It has become very difficult to bear the burning sensation. I feel exhausted while driving my motorbike," a marketing executive, said Dinesh Sharma, a Delhi resident.
