Ashok. K. Puri, Chairman & Managing Director, BHEL received the award from Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission of India, at a function held in Mumbai the other day, a Press release said.

Amongst all the PSUs in India, BHEL has been bestowed upon this prestigious award for its exceptional high-growth performance with across-the-board gains on all parameters in its areas of operation. Â

Continuing on its high growth path, BHEL doubled its turnover in 3 years and profit in 2 years time. In 2006-07, BHEL achieved a record turnover of Rs. 18,739 crore, an impressive growth of more than 29 per cent over the previous year. Net Profit (PAT) soared by 44 per cent to Rs. 2,415 crore.   Â

The Company has unveiled a Strategic Plan 2012 that will enable it achieve a turnover of US$ 10 billion by 2011-12 i.e. two and half times its present turnover of US$ 4 billion.Â

BHEL is taking long strides to become a major global player by enhancing its presence in international markets and it has identified overseas business as one of its future thrust areas. BHEL is India’s largest Power Project exporter from India. Over the years, BHEL has established its footprints in all the six inhabited continents of the world, spanning 68 countries. Â

The company has taken steps for upgradation / introduction of new technologies. It has tied-up to acquire new technology to produce thermal power equipment with Super Critical parameters for next higher rating of 800 MW and above.Â

BHEL was set up with a mandate to make the country self-reliant in the manufacture of power plant equipment. Today, the company’s generating equipment (Thermal, Hydro, Nuclear & Gas) forms the backbone of the Indian energy Sector. Notably, BHEL sets generate 73% of the total power produced in the country while accounting for 65% of India’s installed generating capacity of over 1,25,000 MW (as on 31/3/2007).Â

The company has also reaffirmed its commitment to the Indian Power Sector by equipping itself for the future, by way of technology, facilities and trained manpower to meet the country’s power forecast for the XI Plan and beyond. BHEL has embarked upon a very ambitious plan of enhancing its manufacturing capacity to 15,000 MW per annum with a total investment of around Rs 3,200 crore for the 11th Plan, the release said.
