The session, which began Thursday, is also looking for opportunities in removing barriers to trade in goods and services and investment across all sectors of the economy.

India's Commerce Secretary G.K. Pillai and Davis O'Sullivan, director general, European Commission, are leading their delegations.

"The EU and India expect to promote bilateral trade by removing barriers to trade in goods and services and investment across all sectors of the economy," said an official statement Friday.

"Both parties believe that a comprehensive and ambitious agreement that is consistent with the WTO (World Trade Organisation) rules and principles would open new markets and expand opportunities for EU and Indian businesses," it added.

The EU and India, being vital trading partners, also stressed on the need to maintain their commitments of the multilateral system and reaffirmed their commitment to the Doha development agenda.
