According to the sources, the 80-year-old politician is suffering from Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cell.

“He has been in our hospital for almost a month and his condition is very critical. We are trying our best but everything depends on god,” the source told IANS.

Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cell, an important part of the immune system that produces antibodies to help fight infection and disease.

Five doctors from Apollo and an expert from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have been treating Chandra Shekhar, who was prime minister in 1990-91.

Besides, a specialist from the US came here to oversee his treatment. “He returned after a day,” said the source.

Chandra Shekhar is a Lok Sabha member from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh and leads the Samajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya).
