Srinagar : Pro-independence Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik was arrested in south Kashmir's Anantnag district Saturday evening and was later released here a day before he was scheduled to start a "freedom journey" from the district.
Showkat Bakshi, a close associate of Malik and a senior JKLF leader, told reporters that Malik was arrested near Kokernag town in Anantnag district.
The JKLF chief was en route to Daksum village, 86 km from here, where the outfit was scheduled to start its across-the-Valley 'Safar-e-Azadi' (Journey for Freedom) Sunday.
"The police arrested Yasin Malik near Kokernag and brought him back to Srinagar where he was later released," Bakshi said, adding "In light of this development our march tomorrow has been postponed and the next course of action would be decided in Srinagar now."
The journey is part of the JKLF's six-month-long "journey" to cover the entire Valley in order to build pressure on India and Pakistan for the inclusion of Kashmiris in the ongoing peace process between the two neighbours.
