New Delhi : Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Tejendra Khanna Tuesday assured that more initiatives would be taken to provide housing benefits to Delhi Police officials.
"To ensure better and effective work, the policemen deserve such facilities. Most of them hail from different states and don't have proper living places," Khanna said at the ceremonial parade function at Police Training College here.
Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said: "At present only 27 percent officials enjoy housing facilities."
He added that according to National Police Commission report, the facilities should be extended to all the policemen. If not feasible, over 50 percent must get this benefit.
The lieutenant governor also lauded the city police's advance preparedness to overcome the challenges of organising the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the city.
Estimates suggest that over 60,000 policemen including 2,500 in the rank of gazetted officers constitute the Delhi Police.
