New Delhi : Admitting that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had failed to secure passage of the women's reservation bill, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi Wednesday said the law will be enacted before the government completes its full term.
Dasmunsi was formally releasing to the media a 22-page report of the UPA, launched a day earlier on the third anniversary of the coalition government by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The government had fulfilled most of the promises and commitments made in the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP), he told reporters.
"Before our term ends, we may even do more than what we had promised in the NCMP," Dasmunsi added.
The minister highlighted the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and the Right to Information (RTI) Act as some of the main achievements of the government.
Never before had any government made such huge investments in the social sector as done by the UPA government, he said.
Dasmunsi also promised to give the highest priority to agriculture in the remaining two years of this regime, a commitment made by the prime minister in the annual Report to the People.
