Aizawl : A human rights group in Mizoram, advocating the restoration of democracy in Myanmar, has sought the help of the state’s influential church to help people in that country that shares a long border with the northeast Indian state.
The Mizoram Committee for Democracy in Burma (MCDB) has formally approached the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitu Committee (Committee of Church Leaders in Mizoram) to hold prayer meetings for peace and restoration of democratic rights in Myanmar.
“Our brothers and sisters there are suffering the tyranny of the military rulers and even churches are ransacked and desecrated. We believe it’s our duty as Christians to pray for them,” David M. Thangliana, an MCDB member, said Thursday.
Exiled Christians from Myanmar, who are now settled in Mizoram, have been holding special prayers every Sunday for peace in their ancestral country.
