Dhaka : Bangladesh’s elite strike force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel are conducting a massive hunt in the capital and its adjoining areas for Rabindranath Tagore’s stolen Nobel Prize medal, which was smuggled into Bangladesh.
They are trying to nab two persons who are suspected of possessing the 1913 Nobel Prize medal awarded to Tagore, which was stolen from West Bengal in 2004, local newspaper The Independent reported Thursday.
Earlier on Tuesday, acting on a tip-off that the medal had made its way into Bangladesh, the RAB personnel raided a market in Dhaka to recover the priceless memento, RAB sources said.
“We are now conducting massive raids across the city for nabbing two persons who are suspected to be possessors of the medal,” a RAB official was quoted as saying.
Tagore won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. He was Asia’s first Nobel Prize winner.
