New York : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has voiced its grave concern over the dangerous consequences of climate change and urged the developed nations to take necessary measures to comply with greenhouse gases emission targets.
“Industrialised nations have responsibilities regarding commitments to the Kyoto protocol as well as legally binding targets to limit their greenhouse gas emissions,” Rehab Al Mansouri, member of the UAE Permanent Mission to the UN, told the world body in course of a debate on sustainable development, reported WAM news agency.
She asked the developed economies to offer more aid and assistance to developing countries so that they can build capabilities for tackling environmental disasters and developmental challenges.
She added that the UAE’s Masdar Initiative had launched the world’s first fully sustainable green community. Masdar City Development is the world’s first zero-carbon, zero-waste green community and it will establish a standard for implementing integrated sustainable technologies.
The recent launch of the Global Environment Outlook (GEO-4) by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Abu Dhabi along with other cities of the world indicates the UAE’s commitment to protect the environment, she added.
