New Delhi : A top activist of the outlawed Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) of the northeast was allegedly hammered to death by some unidentified assailants in his south Delhi home, police said Monday.
“The victim – Kumai Thang Hang – was murdered at his Srinivas Puri home. He was repeatedly hit on the head with a hammer,” a senior police official told IANS.
However, Kuki activists claim that Hang, 35, was watching television with four friends when around 15 masked men barged into his home Sunday midnight and pumped bullets into him.
“They tied his friends with ropes and took Hang to another room. They raised the television volume to maximum and then pumped four bullets into his head,” said a Kuki activist on condition of anonymity.
“The assailants fled the spot immediately. His friends somehow managed to untie themselves and informed the police. A bleeding Hang was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where doctors declared him brought dead,” the activist told reporters outside the AIIMS mortuary Monday.
Hang hailed from Manipur and was the chief commander of the KRA. He had come to the capital around 20 days ago to meet his two younger brothers studying here.
Police said it could be a case of personal vendetta, but maintained Hang was not fired at.
“Hang’s post-mortem report reveals that he died of hammer injuries. We don’t think any outsider was involved in the murder,” an official said, adding that the four friends present at the time of incident were being questioned.
“They could be involved, but we are not ruling out other possibilities. We expect the case to be cracked soon,” he added.
No arrests have been made yet.
