Anil Kumar Sharma, a Patna-based builder, lodged a complaint in the court of chief judicial magistrate here Tuesday against Singh under Sections 323, 379, 406, 452 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Court officials said the case was transferred to the court of Sub-Divisional Magistrate, who fixed Nov 25 as the next date of hearing.

“Anant Singh called me from his mobile phone and threatened me and my wife with dire consequences if we failed to execute the sales deed of some property,” Sharma said in his complaint.

“Singh forced me to sign blank cheques and later Rs.7.11 lakh was withdrawn from my wife Usha Sharma’s account,” Sharma alleged.

Last week, a court here granted bail to Singh, all charged with attacking journalists.

Singh, who is seen as a terror in Bihar and has over two dozen criminal charges against him, was arrested with four of his henchmen for attacking journalists on Nov 1.

NDTV news channel reporter Prakash Singh and cameraman Habib Ali had approached the legislator for his reaction to reports linking him to the rape and murder of a young woman, Reshma Khatoon.

Singh, a legislator from Mokama, is considered close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

In 2004, Singh was seen brandishing an AK-47 rifle in public but no action was taken against him. Under the law, only security personnel are allowed to carry the assault rifle.
