New Delhi : President Pratibha Patil, who celebrated Children’s Day with hundreds of kids in the Rashtrapati Bhavan, urged them to be “sensitive to the surroundings” and become “someone who cares for others”.
Interacting with about 400 children from Delhi and surrounding areas, Patil asked them to work for the country’s economic progress. She asked them to “contribute to a caring society that provides the benefits of growth to all, particularly the weak and the disadvantaged.
“I would like all of you to be sensitive to the fact that many children are not fortunate to have the opportunity of getting good education. You can be sensitive to your surroundings by helping at least one disadvantaged child. By doing so, you become a child who cares for others,” she said.
Patil said she wanted every boy and girl in the country to be “touched by the light of modern education”.
Emphasising on the need to educating girls, the president said: “When we educate a girl child, we have not only educated an individual but also a family.”
