Fourth India-Pakistan ODI: Statistical highlights

New Delhi : The following are the statistical highlights of the fourth One-Day International in Gwalior Thursday in which India beat Pakistan to seal the five-match series:

– India won a bilateral series against Pakistan at home after 24 years.

– For the first time, India have won three games against Pakistan in a bilateral series in India.

– India registered their seventh win in nine matches at Gwalior – third in succession. In their previous two games, India had defeated New Zealand by 14 runs on Nov 11, 1999 and Australia by 37 runs on Oct 26, 2003.

– Pakistan lost their first game in two matches at Gwalior.

– For the sixth time, Pakistan’s opening pair failed to open account against India in ODIs – earlier occasions were Toronto on Sep 16, 1998; Karachi on Nov 20, 1989; Mohali on April 1, 1999; Rawalpindi on Feb 11, 2006, Lahore on Feb 13 and 2006.

– Salman Butt registered his third duck against India in ODIs – his sixth overall. On all three occasions against India, he has registered second-ball ducks.

– Younis Khan became the second batsman to aggregate 200 runs in the series (231 at an average of 57.75). Butt was the first to amass 200 runs – he has 216 at an average of 54.00.

– Zaheer Khan completed his 200 wickets in 144 ODIs, his 200th victim being Pakistan’s captain Shoaib Malik.

– Zaheer is now the fifth Indian bowler to have bagged 200 wickets or more in ODIs, joining Anil Kumble (337), Javagal Srinath (315), Ajit Agarkar (288) and Kapil Dev (253).

– Zaheer’s feat is the second fastest by an Indian bowler, after Agarkar, who had accomplished it in 133 ODIs. Kumble and Srinath share the third spot, achieving the distinction in 147 ODIs each.

– For comparison, Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq holds the record for the fastest 200 wickets, performing the feat in 104 ODIs, followed by Australia’s Brett Lee (112), South Africa’s Allan Donald (117), Pakistan’s Waqar Younis (118), Australia’s Shane Warne (125), South Africa’s Makhaya Ntini (126), Pakistan’s Shoaib Akhtar (130), Agarkar (133) and Australia’s Glenn McGrath (133).

– Zaheer (2/40) produced his best performance in his last 22 ODIs.

– Younis’ 68 off 89 balls is his 29th fifty.

– With Shahid Afridi’s dismissal, Sourav Ganguly completed his 100 wickets and completed the triple of 10,000 runs, 100 wickets and 100 catches in ODIs.

– Ganguly is the third all-rounder in ODI history to have completed the triple, joining India’s Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya.

– Yousuf (209 at an average of 104.50) became the third Pakistani to aggregate 200 runs in the series.

– His 99 not out, off 104 balls, is his 59th fifty. He missed his 14th century by just a single run. This was his fifth score in the 90s.

– Yousuf is the eighth batsman to remain unbeaten on 99 in ODI history – the third to do so against India, joining New Zealand’s Bruce Edgar at Auckland on Feb 14, 1981 and Ramnaresh Sarwan (WI) at Ahmedabad on Nov 15, 2002.

– Ganguly (5) has made 284 runs in 13 innings against Pakistan in India at an average of 21.84, with just one fifty – 57 off 90 balls at Mohali on April 1, 1999.

– Ganguly had last posted a fifty-plus against Pakistan almost eight years ago – 141 at Adelaide on Jan 25, 2000. He is now without a fifty in his last 22 innings against Pakistan.

– Tendulkar, who had made his Test debut on Nov 15, 1989 against Pakistan at Karachi, celebrated 18 years of international cricket with 97 off 102 balls.

– Tendulkar extended his records for most fifties (87) and most nineties (16) in ODIs.

– Tendulkar (229 at an average of 57.25) became the first Indian to amass 200 runs in the series.

– Yuvraj Singh became the second Indian to make 200 runs in the series – 222 at an average of 74.00.

– During his 33rd fifty, Yuvraj (1,005) became the fifth Indian batsman to aggregate 1,000 runs or more against Pakistan, joining Tendulkar (2,351), Rahul Dravid (1,823), Mohammad Azharuddin (1,657) and Ganguly (1,652).

– Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the first batsman to register a six as a winning hit five times in ODIs.

– Tendulkar got his 56th Man of the Match award.
