Islamabad : At least 80 people have been killed in armed clashes between two rival groups in northwest Pakistan’s tribal areas, the state-run PTV reported Sunday.
“About 75 to 80 persons have been killed in the sectarian clashes in the last three days,” Major General Waheed Arshad, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said while talking to PTV in Parachinar, the headquarters of Kurram Agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
A total of 11 security personnel were also killed and 32 injured in the firing between Sunnis and Shias, Arshad said.
The clashes started Friday when unidentified people started firing, killing and injuring several people.
Officials said that both sides involved in the clashes used heavy weapons against each other.
Around 84 people were killed and many injured as a result of sectarian clashes in Kurram Agency in April this year.
