In an operation occurred in an area believed to be used by al-Qaida network as a propaganda house in northeast Samarra City, 120km north of Baghdad, the U.S. troops received fire from the house, prompting them to return fire and killing two armed men, the military said in a statement.

During the operation, four other armed men were killed while trying to flee to a nearby structure in the area, the statement said.

Later on, the troops secured the targeted area and found out that three of the killed were wearing suicide vests, it said.

The troops also found a weapon cache, bomb-making materials and a media cache in the two buildings which were then destroyed by U.S. air craft since they were valued as “structurally unsafe,” according to the statement.

During the operations, the soldiers detained three more suspects from two other locations in northeast Samarra, the statement said.

In another operation in Baghdad, the U.S. soldiers detained six suspects, including a wanted individual, it said.

Meanwhile, the soldiers detained another suspect believed to be affiliated to al-Qaida in Iraq network in an operation in southwest of Kirkuk City, 250 km north of the capital.
