Ramallah : Recognizing Israel by Palestinians is not a precondition for talks, it only goes along with considering Israel a national sanctuary for the world’s Jews, said Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni on Sunday.
During a meeting her French counterpart Bernard Kouchner, Livni said the next Palestinian state will be a solution for Palestinians living in refugee camps and inside Israel.
She rejected statements by the Israeli Knesset’s Arab MPs who had rejected considering Israel a Jewish nation.
Those are calling for establishing a Palestinian state while working against the existence of the Jewish state, she said.
Israel, she added, is a Jewish country and all persons elected to Knesset must accept the basic principles of Israel’s existence.
She considered the success of the upcoming US-sponsored peace forum in Annapolis a step for launching bilateral talks to establish a Palestinian state.
