Rizwanur, 30, was found dead on Sep 21, barely a month after his marriage with Todi’s daughter Priyanka. Todi allegedly threatened his son-in-law with dire consequences and put pressure on him through the police to annul the marriage.

Before his death, Rizwanur accused police officers Gyanwant Singh, Ajoy Kumar, Sukanta Chakraborty and Krishnendu Das of harassing him.

“Todi underwent a lie detector test at the Centre for Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) here in connection with the Rizwanur Rehman case. He was also questioned in the capital Thursday along with his brother Pradeep Todi,” a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official said.

“We are currently questioning Pradeep separately and a lie-detector test may be carried out on him,” the official added.

A lie detector test is not admissible in the court of law but is a potent tool that is used by the police to corroborate evidence already obtained through investigation.

The CBI, which took up the case from Kolkata Police on the directions of the Calcutta High Court, had already questioned Todi, his brother Pradeep and daughter Priyanka in Kolkata.

“He was called to the capital for further questioning in the matter and also to confront him with phone call records and other new facts that have come up during the interrogations,” the official added.

Sources in the CBI told IANS that during interrogation Thursday, Todi revealed that he had used his influence but not money to break up his daughter Priyanka’s marriage with graphic designer Rizwanur.

“Todi said he didn’t pay anything to cops but indeed used his influence. He denied of putting any unwarranted pressure on Rizwanur. Todi also denied paying any professional goons at any point,” a source said.
