Tendulkar now second highest run-getter in Test cricket

New Delhi : Sachin Tendulkar moved past former Australian skipper Allan Border during the course of his undefeated 32 on the fourth day of the first cricket Test against Pakistan at Feroze Shah Kotla Sunday.

Tendulkar now has 11,183 Test runs, moving ahead of Border’s 11,174, while Brian Lara stays perched on the top with 11,953.

While Tendulkar took just 141 Tests, Border needed 156 Tests. However Lara’s runs have come in only 131 Tests.

The top five run-getters in the 10,000-run club are:

The other statistical highlights of fourth day’s play were as follows:

*** Sachin’s average of 54.81 is the best amongst the batsmen in the 10,000-run club.

*** Sourav Ganguly (2/20) produced his best bowling figures in the second innings of a Test match – his third best overall, next only to his 3 for 28 against Australia at Kolkata in 1998 and 3 for 71 against England at Nottingham in 1996.

*** During his innings of 34 off 96 balls, Rahul Dravid became the third Indian to complete 500 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla – 528 at an average of 58.66 in six Tests. Dilip Vengsarkar (671 in 8 Tests) and Sunil Gavaskar (668 in 9 Tests) are the only two batsmen with 600 runs at this venue.

*** Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar also completed their 500 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

*** Anil Kumble’s figures of 7 for 106 (4/38 + 3/68) are now the best in a Test match by an Indian captain on debut against Pakistan and the second best overall after Kapil Dev’s 8 for 118 (4/45 + 4/73) against West Indies at Kingston in 1982-83.

*** Wasim Jaffer’s ninth Test fifty (53 off 81 balls) is his first against Pakistan.

*** Zaheer Khan has claimed 35 wickets in seven Tests at 21.91 runs apiece in 2007. Only Dale Steyn of South Africa with 39 wickets in six Tests has claimed more wickets than him this year.
