Agartala : Three militants of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) were killed in a fierce gunfight with security forces in Champahour village, about 90 km from here, officials said Sunday.
A police spokesman said the encounter took place late Saturday between the militants and the paramilitary troopers of the Assam Rifles.
“Acting on a tip off, troopers launched a combing operation in the area, which resulted in a fierce gun battle for about two hours, in which three militants were gunned down,” police officer Nepal Das said.
Three AK-series rifles, seven live cartridges, two Chinese-made grenades, 250 rounds of bullets, electronic goods and incriminating documents were recovered from the slain militants.
In a separate incident, five militants were surrendered before the security forces in Kanchanpur area in north Tripura. The militants including a self-styled corporal, Amrita Sadhan Jamatia, handed over a huge cache of ammunition.
