Mumbai : Nearly a thousand villagers were treated for various ailments at a free medical camp organised by Reliance Energy Ltd. (REL) in Maharashtra’s Thane district.
Villagers from 15 rural pockets of the Mira Road-Bhayander areas, about 20 km northwest of Mumbai, attended the camp held Sunday to mark the golden jubilee of the birth anniversary of Balayogi Shri Sadanand Maharaj.
Mira Road-Bhayander mayor Narendra Mehta inaugurated the daylong camp in the presence of REL vice-president for corporate social responsibility Vijay Prabhu, municipal commissioner Sudam Gaikwad and other dignitaries at the Adarsh Vidya Mandir School in Rai village.
Mehta said the entire Bhayander-Rai-Morva rural belt, inhabited by over 60,000 villagers, lacks proper medical infrastructure.
“The camp gave an opportunity to the people to avail of specialised and expert medical treatment which many would never have been able to afford,” he said.
A team of 15 doctors from the REL’s M.G. Hospital in Mumbai came down to conduct general check-ups and minor surgeries. They also gave ENT, gynaecology, physiotherapy, and cardiac treatment.
REL, part of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, is a leading private sector utility company with a market capitalisation of over Rs.2,700 billion.
