By RINA International Service

Azamgarh: On November 5, 2007, All India Hajj Sewa Samiti announced in Azamgarh (U. P.) to start a popular movement for achieving a commission’s status for Hajj Committee of India or making it a powerful body. Samiti’s president Hafiz Naushad Azami announced here in Shibli Degree College that this movement shall be launched in February next year with the purpose of making Hajj pilgrimage well-organized and well-coordinated so that Hajj Committee of India would not make any excuse of being powerless in ensuring facilities for Hajj pilgrims.

Addressing the Hajj Conference organized here, Mr. Azami told that the Samiti has been struggling for amendments in Hajj Act since last three years so that the Hajj Committee of India would be accorded the status of a commission or be turned into a powerful institution. He said the only way to make the Hajj pilgrimage better organized and well coordinated is to give Hajj Committee of India the authority to make wide-ranging decision in the interest of pilgrims, instead of keeping it dependent upon different ministries and departments. He told they have met the prime minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh in this connection and the issue has been raised in parliament too. Moreover, UPA government has also been apprised of the importance of this vital need through political advisor of UPA chairperson Madam Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Ahmad Patel, but this nationally significant key Muslim institution has been kept paralyzed as usual.
