In a message on the occasion of the Solidarity Day with the Palestinian People, agreed by the UN General Assembly in 1977, the diplomat referred to the recently concluded meeting in the US city of Annapolis on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Ban said that the two parties were committed to channeling all of their efforts into reaching a peace agreement to solve this conflict next year.

“What we do tomorrow is more important than what we say today,” said the UN secretary general, who offered the UN total support to the renew peace efforts.

ó Palestinians have been deprived from their inalienable right to self-determination for 60 years. That society has been more and more fragmentized territorially by settlements, land expropriation, and the wall in the Palestinian Occupied Territory, ó stressed Ban.

The diplomat added that this situation has started to create a fear that the dream of a State cannot come true. ó That increasing fear of despair should be reverted, ó noted Ban.

Speaking about the peace process launched in Annapolis, the secretary general said the ó UN must not close its eyes to the deep doubt and lack of confidence between the two parties about the capacity and willingness of the other to reach those goals.” The former South Korean foreign minister considered this process should end the occupation and create an independent and feasible Palestinian State, in peace with itself and its neighboring countries.

Topics related to the Palestinian state borders, the future of East Jerusalem, the situation of refugees, and the distribution of waters, among others, were quoted by the UN diplomat as injustices, indignities, and fears between the parties hinder the confidence in the political process.

“We should also help the Palestinian Authority in reconstruction, reform, and performance. I hope that donors make a step forward with financial and political support in the next conference on this issue in Paris,” said Ban.
