Dilip Vengsarkar and Mohammed Azharuddin of India and Pakistan’s Asif Iqbal, Rameez Raja and Aamir Sohail went around the huge ground during the tea break waving to the cheering crowds.

Rameez, affectionately called ‘Rambo’, blew kisses. He and Sohail are here as TV commentators, while Vengsarkar is watching the Test as chairman of the national selection committee.

Azharuddin, looking impeccable in a suit wearing dark glasses and perhaps more fitter than ever, and Asif are guests of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

Pakistani selection committee chairman Salahuddin Ahmed watched the former captains go round the stadium from the press box.

Later, Salahuddin, who marvelled at the view from the box, also called his Pakistani guests into the press box. The Aligarh-born former Pakistani Test player said he enjoyed the action from the highest point in the stadium.

“It’s a beautiful view from here. I would like to watch the action from here for the rest of the match,” he said.
