More Malaysia Airlines flights from south India

New Delhi : Malaysia Airlines will increase its flights from the southern Indian gateways of Chennai and Bangalore in its 2007 winter schedule, operating 13 flights a week.

From Chennai, the airline’s flights will be increased to nine a week from the current seven. From Bangalore, there will now be four flights a week from the current three, the airline said Monday.

With the addition of three new flights, Malaysia Airlines will now operate 30 weekly flights from its five gateways in India.

It operates daily flights from New Delhi and Mumbai and thrice weekly flights from Hyderabad.

The additional Chennai flights will be operational from Oct 28 on Thursdays and Sundays at 12.50 p.m. The additional Bangalore flight will start operating from Nov 3, every Saturday at 10 p.m.

With the new flights, Malaysia Airlines’ overall seat capacity from Chennai and Bangalore will be increase to 3,607 from the present 2,920. The airline will operate Airbus 330-300 and Airbus 330-200 on these routes.

“Chennai and Bangalore are amongst the prominent growing gateways for Malaysia Airlines’ South Asia operations, contributing significantly to increased passenger’s movement and yields,” said Christopher Yek, Malaysia Airlines regional manager for South Asia.

“This enhanced capacity will efficiently be able to meet the approaching Indian festive and year-end holiday season,” he added.

Internationally, Malaysia Airlines is recognized as one of Asia’s largest, flying passengers to some 100 destinations across six continents everyday.

Malaysia Airlines has posted a net profit of 113 million ringgits (Rs.1.32 billion) for the second quarter of the current financial year.
